THE MINISTRY OF BUILDING INNOVATION (MOBI)

You may have heard on the news this morning that renowned architect and Channel 4 star George Clarke has launched a new housebuilding initiative designed to inspire the next generation of builders.

The new initiative has been named ‘The Ministry of Building Innovation’ (MOBI) and aims to transform the way we think, design and construct homes both in the UK and abroad by pushing the current building boundaries and utilising the creative minds of the younger generation.

The method of building new homes is the same method we used hundreds of years ago and this scheme is hoping to ignite systematic change within the industry. In conjunction with Teeside University, MOBI will teach the new generation of students to think differently and challenge the norm.

In 2015 the Government announced plans to build 1 million new homes by 2020 and although the MOBI initiative cannot solve all the problems of the housing industry, it aims to harness the talents, ideas and energy of the younger generation to actively disrupt the current system through innovation.

More business’ need to start offering opportunities to young people by providing them with a stepping stone into their career. With an ageing workforce, this could not be more important.

At Morris Property we have spoken before about the skills shortage in the industry and how we need to support and encourage students to take up a career in construction. We fully support this initiative and hope that it will start to pave the way for change in our ever growing industry whilst also addressing the national housing crisis.
