Sports Hall, Acton Burnell

Project Specifications

Description

Work has begun to provide new sporting facilities at Concord College. This project involves a significant transformation, including the demolition of structures surrounding the existing sports hall and the construction of a new extension.

The centrepiece of this expansion is a four-court badminton hall, designed to accommodate a variety of sports, exams, and assemblies. Retractable seating and convenient storage solutions will optimise space utilisation, allowing the College to seamlessly transition between sporting events and academic functions.

The two-storey building will house a ground-floor sports hall, meeting Sport England’s club standards. This space will be complemented by two spacious equipment storage areas and three exam rooms, with retractable seating located beneath the gallery/walkway. The first floor will feature a dedicated fitness studio/spin room, equipped with cardio machines and a free weight area. This facility will offer views of the outdoor running track and fields.

To ensure operational flexibility, two separate entrances will allow the College to independently manage the new and existing sports halls.

This site will be constructed under the Considerate Constructor Scheme.

Concord College was founded in 1949; and has been educating students from across the globe ever since. Its 73-acre campus is set in Acton Burnell, where students enjoy large green spaces, extensive sports and music facilities as well as classrooms and state of the art laboratories.
