Project Specifications
- Client: Village Bakery
- Contract Value: £9.1m
- Architect: DPA
- Sector: Commercial & Industrial
- Completion Date: March 2022
This new ‘super bakery’ on Wrexham Industrial Estate is pioneering. Built to replace a nearby facility destroyed by fire, the 140,000 ft² state-of-the-art bakery is four times bigger than the former site and its owners claim it’s one of most modern, high spec bakeries in the UK.
The three-storey building comprises a large steel frame, with cladding to the roof and inner face of the frame to provide a hygienic finish. As well as housing the Village Bakery’s main head office, the new complex also includes a baking academy and development bakery – both twice the size of the previous ones.
Next generation bakery
Following a multi-million pound investment in a fully automated roll line, the new facility can produce a flexible range of rolls for its customers, which include Marks and Spencer. The new world-class sourdough production facility replicates the craft principles of how the finest sourdough is baked.
Air coming into the building is filtered and purified to improve the shelf life of the products, and climate control, soft lighting and quieter production lines improve working conditions for staff.
