For National Apprenticeship Week, we’re highlighting the work that our talented apprentices undertake across our property and joinery businesses.
If you’re a business looking to invest in young talent, you may have questions around how apprentices can integrate and support your existing workforce. Joinery Workshop Foreman, Jamie Goffin discusses how apprentices support the Morris Joinery team and how the division has been able to take on more clients thanks to their support.
How have apprentices developed your workforce?
Through hiring apprentices, Morris Joinery have been able to take on more clients and jobs that we previously wouldn’t have been able to due to overhead costs. We now send out an experienced joiner with an apprentice and reach more clients across Shropshire and beyond.
How do the apprentices support your existing team?
Our apprentices support our existing team with their workload, helping lifting materials and products and cleaning the workshop. Although sometimes not very exciting, these are the jobs that are crucial for our team to enable them to complete jobs quicker and have more time to support the apprentices.
What skills and projects have the apprentices worked on since being with Morris Joinery?
We assign our apprentices a series of tasks and projects through their time at Morris Joinery. Arran is currently working on some storm-proof windows for a private client, and plan to complete the project from start to finish.
What is your top tip for young people looking to get into joinery works?
My top tip for new apprentices and those looking to get into joinery is that you have to be passionate about the craft. With any role, showing motivation and dedication to learning is the best way to grow and to get help from those more experienced.
